The curtail falls on the group stage of this season’s UEFA
Champions League with match day 6 taking place on the 4th-5th
of December 2012.
Some of teams have
already qualified for the knock out phase and these games will merely be
academic for them. Barcelona, Man United, Malaga, Ac Milan, Dortmund, Real
Madrid, Shaktar, Bayern Munich, Valencia, PSG, Porto, Schalke and Arsenal have
qualified. The likes of Bayern and
Valencia will slug it out to finish top of Group F, while PSG and Porto and
Schalke and Arsenal are in a similar situations.
In Group E defending Champions Chelsea have their destiny in
the hands of Shaktar. If Chelsea get a positive result against Nordsjaelland,
their qualification depends on if Shaktar defeat Juventus. If Chelsea fail to
qualify it will be the first time a defending champion has failed to progress
from the group phase.
Celtic will hope that their very good campaign in which they
claimed their first ever away win in the competition against Spartak Moscow and
a famous win against Barcelona will not end in the group stage. Their chance of
progression to the knock out round depends on them getting a victory against Spartak
Moscow at home and Benfica not getting a win in Spain against Barcelona.
