THE BATTLE OF MANCHESTER

VENUE- Etihad Stadium
DATE- 9/12/12
TIME- 1:30 GMT

The 164th Manchester Derby takes centre stage on Sunday.  This Derby has assumed extra significance since the blue half of Manchester became endowed with millions from the Middle East. City did the double over their rivals last season with a 1-6 victory at Old Trafford and a 1-0 victory at the Etihad.
Both clubs occupy the summit of the league table with United top on 36 points and City second only 3 points behind. City remains the only unbeaten side in the league so far while United have lost thrice.  The two teams have not been playing particularly well so far but they have been able to grind out results.

This game cannot be termed a title decided yet but a victory is of utmost importance to both managers. Sir Alex taking a jibe at City stated that City were awarded 21 penalties last season and that if it was United a panel of inquiry would have been set up by The House of Commons. Mancini responded saying he recalled last season when Ashley Young became a swimmer. In reference to Young’s diving antics last season. The mid week champions league defeats by both clubs will have little or no impact on this game.
City play maker David Silva is an injury doubt for the game and his absence is a big blow for the Citizens. United will be without Cleverley and Captain Vidic is not quite ready to return according to Fergie.

FUN FACTS
·        * Ryan Giggs has made the most appearances in the derby playing 35 times.
·        * The derby was first contested on 12 November 1881
·         *City has won 45 games, United has won 68 games and there has been 50 draws.

VERDICT
Although City plays at home they haven’t shown they have what it takes to retain their league title. United on the other hand have had defensive troubles all season long but the brilliance of their attacking play has been excellent.  I reckon Manchester will be red, United to win 2 goals to 1.
